Evangelion 0.1: You Are (Not) Alone

I know this blog is as dusty and dead as hell, but if you’re still reading, here’s finally a post. I watched Evangelion 0.1 today and was mighty blown away. Now before I start talking about the film, let me talk about the crowd there. For a Monday 7.15pm show, the theater was rather packed. I occupied the best seats (B8) so I didn’t have to worry about people standing up during a Rei scene (I hear it’s becoming a meme). Most of the people I observed were either:

2nd screening of Byousoku 5cm!

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

ZOMFG, due to popular demand, the organizers have prepared another screening of Byousoku 5cm. This time, it’s held on the 1st of December at 12.30pm. I’m happy about them rescreening it, but of all the dates, WHY ON THE DAY THAT I HAVE TO WORK? THE PAIN. THE AGONY. THE HATRED.

For those who want to watch Byousoku 5cm, I suggest you get your ass over to the e-ticketing counter now. The sale for it is now avaliable, so hurry up. Sigh, I want to watch but on the 1st of Dec I’m working as a videographer that’s going to pay me by the hundreds for just 1 day of work.

Byousoku 5 cm in Singapore

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

byosoooogooood.jpg

I apologize for the complete lack of posts lately. I’ve been extremely busy with school, as the semester draws towards the end, the assignments are piling up and the assessments are looming near. I just cleared one of the largest hurdle yesterday, where I presented my solo project film, yes that short film I was talking about. I’ll compress a youtube version soon for everyone soon, but for now, let me clear the workload.

Anyway, Animation Nation 2007 draws closer and one of the main films that I’m eyeing to watch is none other than Makoto Shinkai’s Byousoku 5 cm. I’ve never talked about Byousoku 5 cm before on ADD, but I absolutely love this animated film. This anime sits highly on the pantheon of mind-blowing animes, and as a film itself, it has also inspired my next upcoming film. I’ve actually written a rather lengthy draft on Byousoku 5 cm, but I didn’t think it was worthy enough for such a masterpiece. I’ve got a backlog of drafts on fantastic animes though. Never posted my Last Exile draft either. Do check out Crest’s (of RIUVA) review of Byousoku 5cm though, it’s a long read, but it’s bloody awesome.

Now that Byousoku 5 cm is finally coming to the big screens in Singapore, is anyone going to watch it? It’s only going to screen once on the 28th of Nov at 7pm. I’m pretty sure the experience of watching this in the theaters as compared to watching at home would justify the price tag of just SGD$6 (cheaper than watching a movie on a weekend!). I’m planning to make time to go watch it, but would definitely appreciate company (are the goons at RIUVA interested?). If we can get like 10 people, we can get a group discount and buy the tickets for SGD$5!

I’m going to bet I’ll be crying my eyes out once the credit rolls.

Edit: Okay, I just found out it’s sold out. THE HORROR.

You’re Under Arrest: Full throttle!

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

Oh man, the first episode of You’re Under Arrest: Full Throttle is win.

It brought manly tears to my eyes as Miyuki and Natsumi reunite again after so many years (I believe it’s 6 years, season 2 ended in 2001). I remember crying when I watched the second season many many years ago. It was so damn good, only because Akiko Hiramatsu and Sakiko Tamagawa were and still are, such awesome seiyuus. Even now, they still sound like they’re fricking young kickass policewomen. They haven quite vocally aged.

Not to forget that Miyuki’s character design also inspired Kosuke Fujishima to come up with Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess.

If you’re new to the whole You’re Under Arrest series, please go dig out the first two seasons and watch it. It’s really awesome, so fricking awesome till I nearly became a traffic policeman. Luckily I realized that in Singapore, all the traffic police people do is just give people parking tickets and getting shitloads of arguing drivers.

Odex’s Translators goes A.F.K

Top picture: AFK fansub. Bottom: Odex subs

Tell me, why aren’t we surprised at this?

Some local anime fans (I got my sauce from Sekai wa、 Utsukushii deshou?) managed to catch the airing of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu on StarHub’s Channel 56 yesterday. As we all know, Odex (unfortunately) holds license to this legendary anime. What’s infuriating about this, is the similarity in translations from A.F.K’s subs.

This isn’t new, and I do know Odex uses fansub translations from time to time, especially when their mandarin transcripts are not readily available to them. Already, there’s a flaming thread started on the Odex’s community forum (how convinent at a time like this) where forumers are condemning the action and calling sorts of things like getting A.F.K fansubs to sue them.

I Lol-ed.

StrikerS was so GAR it made me cry

Ah, the good old days of Nanoha

Previously, I used to go around and bashfully call myself a Nanoha fan. The two seasons were so awesome, it was amazing that a Mahou Shoujo anime could be so GAR. Aside from the typical 10 minute transformation scenes, the battles were gundam grade fights. The girls were so imba to the point that Rank S wasn’t enough and SSS ranks were needed to put them into place.

The magical systems, the reloading of the Belka Armed Devices (which uncannily sounds like machine fapping) and the yuri overtones were the few reasons why I could go out on the streets and scream RAGING HARD ON and then DIVINE BUSTER any chicks.

But when StrikerS came out, I weeped.

Rewatching Code Geass, lol

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

Wow, I have a sinful confession to make. Instead of spending my saturday wisely (ie working on my projects), I spent the whole day rewatching Code Geass. It all started out with just watching 1 episode before I got back to working on my script, and I end up watching it till the end. Jesus. It’s still as awesome as ever, except it gets better when you marathon it instead of waiting every week for 1 episode and then getting cliff hangers all the time.

I think it’s still as rave-able as ever. Can’t wait for season 2 though. Hopefully by then, Odex would be a thing of the past and they’ll die out or something. Someone seriously need to walk to their office and Geass the fuck out of them for licensing Code Geass and not even producing DVDs where I can blow my money on.

But anyway, before I derail and start bashing Odex again, it’s time to fanboy Code Geass once more.

Newsflash: You’re defuckinitely not safe anymore

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

If you haven heard by now, Odex is marching on with more power about the High Court of Singapore forced Starhub to bow down before the biggest monster on earth. Yes, if you still think you are safe from getting clamped down because you’re a Starhub user, not any more.

If your love for anime is much stronger than the worth of a human’s life, you might want to check out HWZ’s CSI team. They dug out plenty of information regarding the monster himself. Arm yourself with every bits and details and put that 2 years of Nation Service training to good use.

Soldier, if you want to watch the season 2 of Haruhi in the comfort of your own computer chair, you better do something. Need some gospel reading? Hear this guy out.

May Haruhi bless us all.

Codeeeee Geasssss Laaaahhhhh

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime, Personal

I’m probably the last person on earth to know this but I’ll say it anyway…

ZOMFG CODE GEASS EP 24 AND EP 25 IS OUT!

And I can’t download nor watch it. Yay. Yet another reason why this anime blog is dying/dead. I miss doing my Code Geass entries.

My favorite one would probably be the Code Geass Survivor spoof where I actually made the effort to make the retarded Survivor Logo for Code Geass!

Anyway, even though I’ve more or less stayed away from animes these days, and supposedly hang up my Otaku badge, I still get bothered when some completely random person comes up to me and asks whether I’ve watched before Code Geass. LIKE HELLO? DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AM?

THE TSUBAKI OF ANIME DESHO DESHO. I’VE WATCH MORE ANIMES THAN YOU HEAR NARUTO CREAMING RASENGENS.

*Restraints self*

Ah. *coughs* As you can see, my inner fanboy love for the amazing Code Geass is still there, despite the months of separation. I now have a desperate plea for someone to send some Code Geass love to me. Local please. And now, let me return back to Granado Espada, where I am the Lulu of the Cervantes server.

Still haven’t found my Kallen though. Damn.
