Evangelion 0.1: You Are (Not) Alone
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime, Movie

I know this blog is as dusty and dead as hell, but if you’re still reading, here’s finally a post. I watched Evangelion 0.1 today and was mighty blown away. Now before I start talking about the film, let me talk about the crowd there. For a Monday 7.15pm show, the theater was rather packed. I occupied the best seats (B8) so I didn’t have to worry about people standing up during a Rei scene (I hear it’s becoming a meme). Most of the people I observed were either:

Tokyo Marigold, and ticketing rage.

I R BURNING ANGER.
The tickets for the must watch film of year for the Japanese Film Festival, How to Become Myself (あしたの私のつくり方) has been sold out. Rage, rage, rage. The screening’s probably filled up with people who don’t understand film form and watching it just for the sake of watching a more dated film for this year’s JFF.
Rageee.

Japanese Film Festival 2007: True.Romance
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Movie

How to Become Myself (あしたの私のつくり方)
Presented by The Embassy of Japan in Singapore, The Japan Foundation, Singapore Film Society, National Museum of Singapore, and The Japanese Association, Singapore comes the yearly Japanese Film Festival. This year’s theme highlights True. Romance. And there’s also sub themes like obsession, dedication, joy and… woot, lust.
I’m not sure if anyone of you guys out there are film buffs, but there are some very good Japanese films that will be screened during this Film Festival and I recommend you guys to watch them if you can. The films will be screened from Sept 15th to 23rd at the Nation Museum of Singapore.
Under the cut is the full movie listing. Some of the movies have free admissions, while others cost $10 to enter. It’s more pricier than your usual weekend movie, but it’s really good films that you’ll never get a chance to watch. Oh, and SFS members pay only $8!

Death Note 2: The Last Failure.
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Movie
I’ve finally watched the last installment of the Death Note movie franchise at Cineleisure yesterday, and I’m a little bit disappointed with it.
I was told that it’s different from the manga, but my gripe with the movie isn’t so much about how they diverted from original source, but rather how bad acting and poor pacing ruin the movie.
Basically Death Note 2 is only understandable by people who have read the manga. But the people who have read the manga all hate this film.
The irony.

Deaaath Note the movieeeeee. It’s good.
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Movie, Personal

I caught Death Note the movie today at Singapore’s largest mall, which recently opened, VivoCity. It’s also the largest cinema in Singapore, but by comparisons to other country, it’s not really that big. Anyway, the movie’s was launched in Singapore on the 19th of Oct, 4 months after it was first aired in Japan.
So far, I only know Taiwan and Hong Kong have already aired it. Don’t know when it will ever hit the US shores, so just pray for that someone has the balls to bring a camera and record the whole movie and BT it for you guys. It’s also a first time (well for me at least) that an imported Japanese film is out faster than its fansubs.

Random stuff: Gigolo Wannabe and Granado Espada Bash
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Game, Granado Espada, Movie, Personal

No updates today, just a couple of short musing.
Went out today with my girlfriends (Yes, one should learn how to score real life girls by watching animes) and watched Gigolo Wannabe, a Japanese movie. Before watching, I was under the impression that it would be a sucky movie with cheap gags.
I’ll do a review on that movie later, but for those who have a chance to watch it, I would strongly recommend watching. The twist at the end is bloody fantastic.
Both male and female will love this show. 7 hot guys for the girls, and well for the guys we have Riko Narumi, which is more than enough.
Gigolo Wannabe, is about a group of guys coming together to form a Host Club so that they can make a quick buck. Yes, it’s almost like Ouran High School Host Club. In fact, there’s a character that resembles exactly like Tamaki’s personality. Totally.
Also, I’ll be at the IAH press release of Granado Espada and Hellgate London tomorrow, so expect more news on G.E.
I’ll bring my camera along, and if I can rub shoulders with Hakkyu Kim, I’ll be in heaven. XD
Need to sleep now since I’ll have to be there at 7.30am (which means I have to wake up at 5.30am ORZ)

Death Note the movie in Singapore
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Administration, Movie, Personal
I’m not sure whether you hikkomori Singaporeans have been leaving your houses to stalk Misaki-chan, but Death Note the movie is coming to Singapore while you been busy making a galge.
Found this poster hidden deep inside Orchard MRT station, near the exit towards to the toilets. Wow, for once a movie is actually coming here faster than a fansub. Amazing.
It’s amazing that they didn’t bring in NANA here but Death Note. But hey, this is Singapore, so what am I complaining about. Anyway, the movie’s going to be out on the 19 of October, so mark your calandars.

OMFGADRAGONU TIGERU GATO SUCKS.
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Movie

I know this is a wrong place to review this movie, since it has nothing got to do with animes but hey, since Dragon Tiger Gate is adapted from a manhwa, it’s technically a manga so yeah, I’m sooo bitching about this movie here. (And besides, I get to practice doing my film review homework here, hah)
Accomplished scriptwriter cum director Wilson Yip (Bullets Over Summer, Juliet in Love, Skyline Cruisers, 2002, Dry Woof Fierce Fire and SPL) attempts to recreate Dragon Tiger Gate with a slick and highly CG-ed Kung Fu action feel, but fails with a complete catastrophic plot riddled with loopholes and terrible film pacing.
Starring Donnie Yen, Nicholas Tse and Shawn Yue, Dragon Tiger Gate is a complete flop with its focus solely intended to milk the audience’s worth with its effects and star-studded cast.

Movie Review: Umizaru 2 ain’t no Sea Monkey.
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Movie

I went to town today and watched Umizaru 2, one of Japan’s biggest movie blockbuster of the year. I have no idea why the original title Limit of Love was renamed to Test of Trust for the international release. My friend handed me the VCD of the first Umizaru that was aired in 2004 yesterday and I was hooked.
It was just so fantastic and heart wrenching to watch, I immediately watched Umizaru 2 with him today. And when I left the theatre today, my eyes were totally red and my sleeves were soaking wet. I’m not joking. This movie really really moves you.
If I could describe this movie crudely, it would definitely be, “IT’S FUCKING GOOD”.
