Ether Vapor: Wow! Aeroplane loli pr0n!
Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Game

Okay now that I managed to get your attention lol, the next Comiket 70 doujin game I’m introducting would be Ether Vapor. I really love this game. It’s not exactly a genre that most people enjoy, but bear with me while I talk about this. I’m pretty old school when it comes to this kind of game. Hah.
Ether Vapor is the usual spaceship/airplane shooting game with a twist. The graphics and music for this game is pretty solid too. Gameplay’s pretty challenging and I only managed to get to stage 3 (because trying to play this game while pressing the screenshot button is super difficult).
/edit note: This entry got erased twice because the webhost ADD went down when I was publishing it. So forgive me if it’s a little messy.

What’s interesting about this game is that you’re not fixed to the usual bottom to top vertical travelling. There are horizontal battles, diagonal battles and very fun bonus levels.

In stage 2, you change from flying vertically to horizontally, reminding me of the good old days of the side scrolling CONTRA, haha.
And the pictures below are the bonus stage segment:

This bonus stage is fun. You have to move your mouse cursor to lock on all the incoming missles and then firing away to destroy it. Of course, the more you destroy the more points you get.
And the screen just keep rotating here and there, like a dog fight kind of scenario. Very fun.

I swear the yellow haired girl looks like Sakura from Card Captor Sakura/Tsubasa Chronicles
Ether Vapor does not exactly very eye candy characters, but still it’s not bad. Beats having those 1940ish military dorks you get on the arcade machines, lol.

And to translate what he said, “YOU MOTHAFOOKA, IMA BITCHSLAP YOU NIGGA” Lol okay I lied.
The baddies are always dark skinned for some reason. *GASP* RACISM! No. Actually, the darker you look, the more meaner and ass-kicking you look in white uniform. And besides, the developer gave him a huge ass gun. Very well hung indeed.
Unfortunately you don’t get a huge gun. Instead you’re giving Tripeman’s weapons of mass destruction. You have 3 weapon choices to choose from inbetween and you can change them anytime you want during the flight, just hold down the respective button and fire away!

Gattling (Z): Fires in a straight line, deals a lot of damage. Basic gun.

Winder (X): Fires in a W shape line and has a weak central shot. Very good for combing the whole screen.

Lock’on (C): As the name implies, it’s an auto shooting weapon. Lock on takes a little time, so it’s not effect to use it in really tight battles, but it’s useful because you can hit enemies that are far away from your screen.
Also, all 3 weapons have unlimited ammo, so there’s no need to worry about overusing a certain weapon. Heck, you can go Lock’on all the way if you want, but it’s awfully slow.

Spamming Lock’on on a miniboss

And more spamming of Lock’on on the final boss of stage 2

Also, if you find it hard to see the mobs (jUU n00b), you can turn on this target box thingy under settings.
I would recommend this game if you enjoy playing games like these. It’s really good for such a small file, only 18mb and yet it packs such a punch, it’s really addictive. While it lacks meidos, neko-mimis or bishojos, I’m sure it’s okay to be a mecha otaku for a day.

Wow, holy crap … your site is screwed up. For some odd reason your navigation panel is right below your main page. I have had that happen a couple times while I was messing around with the code.
The game looks interesting. Is it a freeware game or do you have to buy it? I searched for downloads for it and all I could find was a trial version.
HOLY GREAT GRAPHICS MUST GET>
Zelath: After the webhost crashed, my layout’s a bit fucked. I’ll fix it tomorrow.. it’s late now. 3am x.x
And it’s a comiket game. If you know where to find it, you’ll know where to get it. Can’t post links *coughtoshocough*, sorry.
tjhan: Aye, and it’s damn fun too as well. And bloody hard to complete.
Oh sweet, I’ll be on the look out for this game since I love shooters.
Ah, I too was wondering about the site layout as well. I see now…
How far have you gotten on stage 3? So far I can beat the first boss, but then the second one kicks my ass with all the huge lasers flying around. Awesome game though.
[...] Seems like the sidebar in Anime Desho Desho’s a little messed up. I found out from Maestro (owner of Ab.net) that it’s because of some tags in my Ether Vapor entry that’s causing this problem. If you click on the other entries, you’ll notice that the sidebar’s working fine by the side. [...]
Just got my hands on the game and I must say, it looks sweet…
Stage 1 and 2 were OK for me, but stage 3 is just insane. Stage 3’s boss is especially nasty. I had to increase to 5 shields to beat him. I’m weak…
Seems like stage 3 is also the last stage for the game as well. With a boss like that, I see why it’s the last stage. Great game nonetheless.
er,Where are you find that…….I just get a 1.04 version……..please mail to me the link….thx^^
[...] Now that I got those off my chest, it’s back to immersion in awesomeness as I talk about my impression on Tsubaki’s Comiket 70 Game Review Offering, Ether Vapor next.# [...]
I’m not sure if you’ve already discovered this, but there is a way of taking screenshots of the game without risking getting blasted out of the atmosphere. Pressing A (Button 5 according to the game), then Z (Button 1 in the game) would allow you to suspend the game itself so you could take snapshots of the game screen without any obstruction.
Hope that could help. :)

So what the story about by the way? I think I checked their website but I didn’t see anything about a storyline.
I hear there’s a 1.06 of this game that has the dialogue translated (thank the Nexus…). Sure would like to know where the f**k to find it. <_< If anyone knows anything about it’s whereabouts, PLEASE let me know.
Oh, and the weapons charge up, just in case anyone didn’t know. The Gatling gun is espescially useful when charged. The damn thing becomes a Mega Buster that’s good for raping the ever living hell out of the bosses. ^_^
