Byousoku 5 cm in Singapore

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Anime

byosoooogooood.jpg

I apologize for the complete lack of posts lately. I’ve been extremely busy with school, as the semester draws towards the end, the assignments are piling up and the assessments are looming near. I just cleared one of the largest hurdle yesterday, where I presented my solo project film, yes that short film I was talking about. I’ll compress a youtube version soon for everyone soon, but for now, let me clear the workload.

Anyway, Animation Nation 2007 draws closer and one of the main films that I’m eyeing to watch is none other than Makoto Shinkai’s Byousoku 5 cm. I’ve never talked about Byousoku 5 cm before on ADD, but I absolutely love this animated film. This anime sits highly on the pantheon of mind-blowing animes, and as a film itself, it has also inspired my next upcoming film. I’ve actually written a rather lengthy draft on Byousoku 5 cm, but I didn’t think it was worthy enough for such a masterpiece. I’ve got a backlog of drafts on fantastic animes though. Never posted my Last Exile draft either. Do check out Crest’s (of RIUVA) review of Byousoku 5cm though, it’s a long read, but it’s bloody awesome.

Now that Byousoku 5 cm is finally coming to the big screens in Singapore, is anyone going to watch it? It’s only going to screen once on the 28th of Nov at 7pm. I’m pretty sure the experience of watching this in the theaters as compared to watching at home would justify the price tag of just SGD$6 (cheaper than watching a movie on a weekend!). I’m planning to make time to go watch it, but would definitely appreciate company (are the goons at RIUVA interested?). If we can get like 10 people, we can get a group discount and buy the tickets for SGD$5!

I’m going to bet I’ll be crying my eyes out once the credit rolls.

Edit: Okay, I just found out it’s sold out. THE HORROR.

Lifetime supply of Yakitate! Japan bread

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Specials

anibreadtalk.jpg

At around 7pm, when I was in school rushing to meet deadlines, my brother informed me that I have a Breadtalk delivery sent to me. I was surprised, because I never expected my simple Breadtalk post to have caused them to send me a lifetime supply of bread. I was pretty damn sure I didn’t diss them.

So anyway, when I got home and opened the package, it was a box filled with the different promotional bread going on- Ja-pan #288, Roar Azuma Roar!, Fantasisa Pantasia, Red Bean Yakitate and Solar Hands Rolling Pin.

My mom was surprised of course, and I told her coolly that Animeblogging feeds the family. Lol.

Hellgate: Whiners

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Game

hellgatetrolldon.jpg

10 days after the launch of Hellgate London in South East Asia, after numerous of bugs, server instability and a truckwhore of forum whiners, IAHgames drops the ultimate bomb on all players. Come 12th November, the server will be wiped. Flagship Studios and IAHgames have been for days, been trying to insert Patch 0, without much success. The issue was the different database used for the US and SEA version.

And their compensation:

We understand this event is frustrating for you, and we are sorry for the problems in implementing Patch0. As compensation, we are providing all gamers who purchased both the Standard and Collector’s Edition Box Sets 4 weeks of free subscription benefits. Each box already includes 30 days of free subscription benefits, meaning all of you will be entitled to 60 days of free subscription when the service becomes active around the end of the year.

And we now open the floodgates. Yeah, this is a rant post.

Yakitate! Japan @ Breadtalk

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Random

breadtalk.jpg

A few days back when I was at Citylink’s Breadtalk, I discovered their special Yakitate! Japan promotion going on. For the uninitiated, Breadtalk is the first local bakery to revolutionizing the bakery scene with its creative store designs and emphasis on consumer marketing. They have awesome names for their otherwise simple bread, and their bread cost so much more than your usual traditional bakery.

Apparently it’s a promotional tie up with Animax, to introduce the premier of Yakitate! Japan on the 28th of November, 8pm from Mondays to Fridays. It’s interesting to see that Animax is slowly invading the public scene with their publicities of certain anime, and I think it’s a good start, though I question the rationale of advertising for a pay to view channel on Starhub. Maybe a certain company should learn a thing or two from them.

When it comes to the crunch, will you defend anime?

writenormalllylol.jpg

Scenario: Classroom full of normal people in a screening room. Suddenly an anime pops up briefly with 2 moe looking girls screaming. One of the student jumps up and decides to make a wise crack and yells “HENTAI!” before the entire ignorant class burst out laughing. And there you are sitting on your chair, clenching your fist in anger as your otaku pride burns up, deciding whether to protest at his stupidity for labeling that anime as hentai. The girls in class are laughing a long with him, in fact, you like that one particular girl in there, and some of the guys are slapping his back for that excellent joke. You’re still contemplating, even though you know it’s false and complete stupid. The blasphemy. The teacher tells everyone to settle down.

You have no brothers in arm, nobody nearby wears a hint of anime merchandise, other than that weird fat girl by the corner of the class that always read very strange mangas. You could have sworn you’ve never seen any girls in that manga at all. Those people starts talking bad about anime, as though it’s all about cartoon porn. The anger in you burns. It’s a different kind of moe.

What will you do?

Hellgate: London Semi-Review

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Game

hellgatequeuelol.jpg

On a whim, I bought Hellgate: London a day after its launch at Funan Digitalife mall. Everyone by now should know how IAHgames doesn’t full any stops when it comes to publicity for its games. While it’s not as stunning as the Zouk Granado Espada Raid Party, they ran an advertisement on Today newspaper, citing London’s destruction with a mock headline- “LONDON BURNING”.

But even without IAHgames publicity, Hellgate: London has been on everyone’s lips in the gaming scene. The former employees of the Blizzard team that worked on the Diablo series left and formed Flagship Studios. Even though it is a new company, the success of the Diablo games brought them quite a large fanbase, ready to consume anything similar to Diablo 2.

With all this hype going on, how much exactly does Hellgate: London live to it? We’ll find out after the cut.

Behind the Scenes of a Student Film Production

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Personal

null

Sorry for the lack of updates and sudden disappearance. I’ve been busy lately shooting two short films. For my school, we have to produce 2 to 3 films a semester, mainly one that is commonly referred to as the “Solo Project”, where we have to write, direct, shoot and edit a film by our own and a “Group Project”, where it’s an actual production with designated crew roles.

Over the weekend, I was working on my Solo Project and had to miss the KALEIDOSCOPE event. =(

The Solo Project is no easy feat especially when you’re ambitious. It’s hard to do it all alone, so we usually rope in a few friends to help with certain roles, and for my case I preferred working in a small group where we can shoot and run, the typical Singapore Film-making Guerrilla shooting style. And yes, I was being rather ambitious.

Anyway, I thought it would be interesting to show you guys a little behind the scenes of how a small scale student production works.

Level 2 Dorama: Drmchrs0 strikes

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Random

doramalolololl.jpg

So we bring you another dorama newsflash: DrmChrs0 strikes yet again, giving more reasons for the dorama flames to start. His verdict to whole DM vs Nyoro~n fiasco:

Drm: DarkMirage is a self-centered faggot.

Whoa! THE DRAMA UNFOLDS! Drm has always been a greatly supplier of dorama flames and his rants are often funny, because you always end up laughing at him instead of with him. It’s a troll post, but for some reason I’m taking bait and I’m going for the gun. Not because I’m siding DarkMirage (he gets bashed by tj and me all time on #sganimebloggers), but how wrong Drm is.

Drm, this is for you.

ADD Mascot: あ-chan is born!

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Administration, あ-chan

addmascoutfinal1.jpg

After some deliberation, あ-chan is finally born! She shares the same birth date as ADD! 24th! Except she’s younger.

Both me and Cheryl is very happy with the response and feedback that you guys have given us in regards to あ-chan’s design. Some of you were already fapping so hard to her, even though she doesn’t even have a bikini unlike Mirai Suenaga, lol! I’m pretty sure we’ll be able to churn out more outfit for あ-chan (trust me to slavedrive Cheryl for moar designs, hahah).

DARKMIRAGE VS NYORO~N DORAMA!

Posted by tsubaki | Filed under Random

dmnyorofansubdorama.jpg

Just a while ago, I was complaining about the lack of dorama on the anime community, and oh my dear Haruhi, DarkMirage decided to stir up yet another dorama in one of the most sensitive e-penis driven section of our community- the fansubbers! DarkMirage has already decimated Doremi awhile ago for their translation, and this time, Nyoro~n bites dust.

I find complete joy in observing the path of destruction going on.
